Transfer to another flight

I had to transfer to a domestic flight at Chicago airport to go to Columbus, but I did not know that the flight would stop by at XX on the way to Columbus. When the plane landed, I got off the airplane, thinking I arrived at my destination. I waited for my baggage for more than 30 minutes, but my baggag did not appear and I found out that I was at the wrong place. The plane had already taken off and I had to stay one night at the airport.
