Vocabulary

transcendent/superb

Greetings,
Here's a sentence: "He describes seeing Pele play as one of the transcendent moments of his life." Do you think that "superb" could be used instead? I think that something transcendent has no match. It is greatest, best, grandest, etc. Superb suggests that it is very good/excellent, but not necessarily the best ever/so far. If someone's a superb dancer, it doesn't mean he/she's the best dancer in the world. Can a moment be described as superb? It sounds a little odd to me. What do you think of all that? I hope it makes sense.

Top answer

Transcendent makes me think of something much more ethereal, almost divine. I think superb, fantastic, joyous, and marvelous would all be better choices.

Thank you. I think wonderful might work as well.
