Yes, in the UK we would spell it with an 's'

Most UK spellings, realise, specialise and tranquilise, are done in that way. The US usually prefers the 'z' spelling

It seems to be to do with Noah Webster's dictionary of 1806. He thought it was more logical to spell the hard sound with a 'z'. It hasn't caught on in the UK though

Many British people prefer the s form, but not all. Oxford University Press have always preferred the z form of such words.
