traffic

When I arrive at the office, I tell my colleagues, "Gosh. The traffic was horrible".

Is 'the' natural? I am referring to the traffic in the vicinity of my office building. I know the plain version 'traffic' is commonly used but it refers to traffic in the city in general as far as I know.

Thanks.
