I cant understand "trade off" and "balance out".

Interestingly, the trade offs in performance essentially balanced out.

shininggirl I cant understand "trade off" and "balance out". You have not supplied enough context for us to give details, but a 'trade off' is a concession, a trading of advantage for disadvantage, and these have apparently been equal: they are balanced advantages in some aspects with disadvantages in other aspects.

That's exactly what the context wants to say.
Are there any synonyms for trade off in this sense? Because I have problem finding its appropriate equivalence in Farsi.
