Toward or towards

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to know what people think about the following sentence:

'He came toward me.'

I know toward and towards are 'six of one' half dozen of another', but I don't think this sentence sounds right.

Shouldn't it be:

'He came towards me?'

If so...why?

Thanks

OK, so it's just a 'preferential issue'.

Phew.

"towards, toward
Both prepositions have the same meaning. The spelling towards is more usual in British English but it is not used in American English." (Collins Gems - Dictionary of English Usage.)
