I went sledding in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, a couple times.
There is no big, treeless hill, afaik, and instead the kids would sled down a rather steep wooded hill, across a 6 foot wide path that was horizontal from side to side, and because of that, the sled would go flying into the air as the ground beneath dropped down as a continuation of the hill.
It was a second or two before the sled hit the ground, and you had to be sure to tuck your elbows in or they would get hit by the ground first.
