touching your nose/ gesture

Hi,
I've noticed in some American tv shows a gesture where a person touches their nose to indicate that some other person said something true or answered a question right. Here's an example from 'the big bang theory":

Sheldon: The print they’re showing on Friday has an additional 21 seconds of previously unseen footage

Penny: What, 21 seconds? That’ll be like seeing a whole new movie

Sheldon: I’m no expert, but I believe what we just heard from Penny was sarcasm

she touches her nose

Does this gesture have anything to do with the idiom "on the nose"? If not, where does this gesture come from?
