Totally off very dark

Hi teachers,

"The colors are totally off very dark".

What does this mean when this is a "off" in the sentence?

Thank you.

No idea; the sentence seems misconstructed.

Good morning Mister Micawber,

Do native speakers say "totally off"? From an American customer, he said "totally off very dark". So I assumed he was talking about the colors of some fabric.

Thank you.

The structure does not make sense to me. It could POSSIBLY be ' totally off "very dark" ' (note the quotes within quotes), meaning is is not 'very dark' at all, as perhaps the speaker had been told or promised it would be.

But that is a very limited situation.

Hi Mister Micawber,

Thanks for the explaination.

Do you mean this speaker thinks the sample fabric is not dark enough? Maybe it should go darker?

Thank you.

Perhaps. As I said, I do not really understand what is being said; the structure is anomalous.

Dear Mister Micawber,

Thank you very much for the help

I've heard people say "He is a bit off". Does that mean he's not himself today, normally he's in sound mind?

'He is a bit off'– which is unrelated to your original sentence– means 'he is slightly crazy, somewhat eccentric (permanently)'.
