Tore up vs. teared up

Hi

Could you please tell me if I understand these correctly?

She tore up the letter and stormed out of the room.

She teared up as she saw her son in the hospital. (teared up = started crying)

Thanks,

Tom

The first example means that the woman ripped the letter apart/destroyed it. The second example means that she got tears in her eyes and almost started crying. So, yes, I think that you get the different meanings of the verb tear correctly.
