"We" certainly don't say this, if "we" includes me or anyone I know! I have no idea what "a person topper" means, or "secured the first post." Is this a reference to some sport? Even if I knew what those expressions meant, your phrase "A person topper w

I think you meant something like, "Why do we call a person a 'topper' when he is of the highest rank?" "Topper" is old British slang, as far as I can tell. I can only guess how it arose—either from the "top hat", which is also called a topper, or straight from the word "top".

Your link shows that 'topper' is an expression used in Indian English, to describe someone who gets the highest marks in an exam. I suppose the derivation is from the fact that their name is at the top of the list.

This expression 'topper' is not a feature of of British or N.
