Dear Phuwin,

I am writing in response to your letter asking for help on a variety of issues with studying abroad. I hope you find the following tips useful.

The first hurdle that any international student, in my opinion, must overcome is the language barrier. Students who first encounter a new region will have numerous difficulties in keeping up with the classes and communicating in a foreign language setting. Even if you believe you are proficient, you might not be able to grasp the local dialect. In other ways, daily routines and activities are also severely constrained. Despite that shortcomings, studying and settling down in a foreign country can assist you in swiftly improving your language skills by allowing you to interact with students who have a strong foundation. As the main goal of studying abroad is to learn a new language, studying and living in a foreign country also can broaden one's horizons and develop critical thinking skills. To actualize that aim, you should have a route suitable for your ability to catch up with everyone in order to improve your language ability, in addition to studying at school. For all of this, I have some recommendations for you: Make friends with the locals and do not be afraid to ask them to repeat things you do not understand, utilize useful internet tools to assist you to overcome language hurdles and learn the language and culture of the nation that may be your dreamland.

There will be challenges in cultural assimilation in addition to the language barrier as each nation has its unique culture, and it may be tough for you to blend in. For example, when you share the room with roommates who were born in a nation that is not culturally comparable to yours, this might be tough. You will feel lonely and like an outsider if you are unable to fit into the culture. It is easy to feel detached when you are surrounded by people who have diverse appearances, trends, and communication styles. These problems, although is temporary, however still bring up many hardships and cause you to become more or less exhausted. But do not be dismayed by all of this, instead, take a step forward and enjoy your new life; the challenges will pass quickly.

You are not just exposed to culture shock in ordinary settings, but you are also exposed to it at school. You could discover that the lecturer communicates with you in an entirely different way than you are used to. Apart from the fact that it must be written in a native tongue, assignments and chores might feel confining. For overseas students who do not have a strong foreign language background, this may be more difficult. Furthermore, unlike domestic study, studying abroad necessitates a significant amount of self-study on the part of students. It takes some time to adjust to this, but you can do it since everything is possible.

I hope you found these suggestions to be helpful. I am looking forward to seeing you when the new semester begins. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Ð? Vi?t Anh
