TOPIC: LIVING IN SCHOOLS OR AT HOME WITH PARENTS?

Question:

It is better for college students to live in schools than to live at home with their parents. do you agree or disagree?

My answer:

Students who prepare to attend colleges often struggle with the decision as to where they should stay during college time. Many people think that living on campus does more good than living at home with their family and I agree with this opinion for a number of reasons.

In my opinion, students residing on campus would find it more easy to get along with their peers than those living with their parents. Those living in the dorms are usually grouped to live with each other, engaging in sports activities on campus, scheduling study groups or even having meals in group. Living in almost such the same condition, they therefore would easily make friends and feel connected in the college community. By contrast, for students forgoing dormitory experience, apart from learning time, they tend to spend less time joining events and other social activities at schools, which accounts for why they often have smaller circle of friends.

In addtion to that, living away from home would help students become more mature and independent. In every dormitory, students can build their sense of discipline thanks to regulations and rules dictated by colleges, which is not likely to apply to those who live with parents. Furthermore students living off-campus somehow still depend on their parents in terms of personal life, such as cooking. By contrast, those living far away from their family not only organize their personal lives themselves, but also can land on-campus jobs, which makes them more financially independent. Discipline and dependence these acquired will facilitate their academic and social success.

In conclusion, considering several aspects of living in the domintories in comparison with living at home with parents, I believe that the former choice would be more beneficial for college students.
