TOPIC: Agree or disagree: Street patrols by volunteers are a good way to prevent crime.

Street patrols are a part of the maintenance of order in most, if not all, developed countries. Recently, shortage of police officers who patrol streets are becoming a social problem in certain countries. Therefore, some of them have introduced street patrols by volunteers. Moreover, they are supported by the residents because they can save labor costs. However, I disagree with the opinion that street patrols by volunteers are a good way to prevent crimes.

first of all, their lack of power and knowledge causes some problems with the maintenance of order. Normally, most people who can patrol are working in the daytime. As a result, the number of people who participate in volunteer activities is small. Moreover, the number of people who have enough power and knowledge are much less. It causes such problems as missing criminals and arresting a wrong innocent person by mistake. This is how street patrols by volunteers have some possibilities which cause problems.

Second, there is a possibility that the motivation of volunteers is decreasing. This kind of patrol has no rewards because it is a volunteer activity. Therefore, even if certain people participate in the volunteer activity primarily, the motivation of volunteers will eventually decrease. If they party. there is a possibility of not only unachievement of peaceful order but also causing some problems such as abuse of authority.

For the above two reasons, I believe that street patrols by volunteers aren't a good way to prevent crimes.
