The Yorkshire attribution for this has always intrigued me.

The only person I've known who used the phrase unselfconsciously and in its entirety that is, not just "ee" or "ba gum" on their own was my grandmother. She was born in Manchester in the late 1890s; emigrated to Canada in 1928; and didn't return to England even for a visit until the late
