Hello,

could you please tell me if the setnence is correct?

Everest is the highest top in the Himalayas.

Or should the word summit be used instead of top?

It's me again. In an erlier post I asked the wrong question. What I wanted to find out is this: can the word top be used on its own or does it have to be mountaintop?

It has to be "mountaintop." Top means the highest part of an object, relative to its base and sides, and usually is used with an of-phrase:

The top of the box is indicated by the arrows on the sides.
