Vocabulary

Toot, sound, honk and give

Hi

Are these sentences natural? Any suggestions are welcome.

The driver tooted the horn but it was too late.

I honked the horn twice but the lady didn’t see me.

Why are you sounding the horn for no reason?

I gave him the horn but he didn't move.

Thanks,

Tom

The first three are natural. For me, the fourth one has very unwanted associations. I understand something very different indeed by the expression "give someone the horn"!

I usually say and hear
eg The driver honked
eg The driver beeped
In the context of driving, you don't need to add 'the horn'.

Thanks, GPY and Clive.

What about imperatives? Are these natural too?

(Clive, I think here we'll need the horn?)

Honk/Sound the horn.
Beep your horn (if the car doesn't move.)

Honk!
Honk your horn!
Beep!
Beep your horn!
Give him a beep!

They all sound natural to me.
