Can I say,

(a) The police caught the thief and took / sent him to the police station.

(b) The police caught the thief to the police station.

(a) 'Took' would mean the same officers who caught the thief brought him or her to the station. 'Sent' would mean they handed the thief over to other officers to bring to the station once they arrested him. 'Took' is probably what want!
