Can I say,

John took part in the / in high jump. (I choose wihout "the" because "high jump " is a game, so no need to put, am i right?)

These types of games are more like individual talents, for which we use the definite article.

He took part in the foot race.
He won the 5000 meter race.
Joe won the 50-meter breast stroke.

He performed a great high dive with two twists and a jackknife.

He will compete in the summer games / Olympics.

We do not use an article with (collective) team spo
