Took a walk through/around/about the small town

The next day, Larkin took a walk through the small town. As she arrived back at the house, she realized something was wrong.

Hi,

For a start, is "through" in the above interchangeable with "around" and "about?"

Secondly, is it better to say "came back to the house" instead of "arrived ...?" Thanks.
