Toodle-oo

She stood at the doorway, gave him a 'toodle-oo,' and left.

How does that translate? Does it come off as her actually saying "Toodle-oo" to him, or rather her just making the sign with her fingers?

Thanks.

I read it as being that she said the words.

Hmmm. I read it as just making the sign.

Vorpar could well be right, but I think I'd side with CJ on this one, although I don't know for sure what a Toodle-oo sign looks like.

Philip I don't know for sure what a Toodle-oo sign looks like.
Nor me. I read it the same as Vorpar.

It seems that many of you think that "gave him" means "said to him", at least in this case. I guess I would have expected "said" for that meaning.
