After learning that some of my relatives were of German descent, someone asked me the other day if I understood German, to which I answered:
"Hardly. My knowledge of German is too limited to even call it a second language."
At the time, it seemed like the best way to put it, but now that I think of it, I'm not sure if the sentence works. Aside from the fact that I split an infinitive (frankly, I think "too limited to even call it" sounds much better than "too limited even to call it"), is there anything wrong with my wording?
