Which is correct:
This mountain is too high to climb to the top of.
This mountain is too high to climb to the top of it.

I prefer (1) as it is shorter. (2) is acceptable.

This seems to me to be missing the "top of" what? This mountain is too high to climb to

Also, why not simply "This mountain is too high to climb"?
