Too Good

Dear teachers,

I recently did a Cambridge Celta pre-course assignment. (I have already submitted it to the School to mark). We were asked to comment on the following sentences in a conversation:

"Wasn't that movie amazing?"

"Yes, it was too good".

I took issue with the adjective phrase "too good": I felt that it should have been "very good" instead of "too good". Maybe, if it had been, "it was too good to be true", I would have accepted it. But just "too good" without anything following the phrase, to my mind, was incomplete. I discussed my opinion with a friend, who felt that the sentences were fine as they were.

What do the teachers and native speakers here think of our views?

Thank you very much for your help.
