too big a piece

What's the difference between too big a piece and a too big piece?

Don't give him too big a piece/ a too big piece of treat. He'll choke.
Thanks

Thanks, Optilang. Is too big a piece larger than a big piece?

They are different.

I took too big a piece of cake. I was unable to finish it. My piece was too big for me.

My wife took a big piece of cake. She was able to finish hers.

We cannot know if my wife's piece or mine was the larger.
