I think it is usually said as 'I am much obliged' please let me know if it is not acceptable at all/ if it is absolutely wrong if we write it as 'I am too obliged'.

Not right. The usual phrase is, as you say, 'I am much obliged' or (more casual) 'Much obliged'. 'I am very obliged' sounds reasonable to me, however.

I believe you refer to the transitive form of the verb oblige.

If you do, you must have a direct object after the verb.

For example: He is much obliged for her trying to help.

Personally, I agree that much is commonly followed by oblige, and I wouldn't use too in this context.
