Tone??shade?

Hi,

I have checked the dictionary but I am still confused...Can you advise the correct word ti use in this sentence:

"I don´t like the shade of this conversation" Referred to e-mail text not to a phone conversation!

I wish to say that I do not like the way my customer use to express his opinion and /or instructions

Can I use "shade " or "tone"

Maybe I can say "I do not like the direction our conversation is going .." or "I do not like how the situation is evolving"Please try to help, I do not know how to say!!!

Thanks

Pamela

I would suggest using tone here instead of shade. Where shade and tone have similar meanings is most often in reference to color. " Your other suggested ways of expressing yourself would be perfectly acceptable as well.

Hi,

thanks.

If I understand it right, "shade" and "tone" are interchangeable in the case of colours but in the sentence mentioned by me, no. Better "tone" even if I am speaking about mail and not phone communication.

But..

"I don´t like the direction our conversation is going" is really correct? doesn´t need a " going ....to"? or can I say "I don´t like the dire

"I do not appreciate the tone of your email" would communicate that he was rude and that you are offended.

No. You definitely need 'tone' here.

I don't like the tone of this conversation.

Less stridently,

I'm not comfortable with the tone of this conversation.

Yes. It works. It's a little confrontational, but it works.
