Tomato: vegetable or fruit.

Hi!

I always thought tomato was a vegetable, but..it seems it isn´t. Here I bring a piece of information about it and a good link to practice English pronunciation.

This is a matter of knowledge vs wisdom. Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit - wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad! Seriously though - botanically it's a fruit (so we're told), though it's eaten as a vegetable.

Yes, history of every food must be very interesting. It took some countries very long to consider tomatoe something edible. I have wondered many times who decided chickpekas could be eaten. They need more than one hour boiling to be eatable!!!, and they look like pebbles(so tough they are...).

I think when you use tomato to cook soup, which is flavoured with salt, tomato is vegetable.

But when you grind tomato to drink or eat it with sugar for your dessert, it becomes fruit.

Interesting topic! Indeed, I wouldn't put it in a fruit salad. But I love tomato soup. Emotion: smile

hi again!

I like tomato too. Although it could seem like a vegetable, it is botanically a fruit. And think of lemon, it can´t be eaten raw as other fruits do, but it is a fruit. Tomato is not like other vegetables either, but let´s accept it as it is, hehe.

I think that the tomato is a vegetable, I do not represent it in salad with grapes, for example. We usually cook a borsch from tomatoes and we do vegetable caviar.

It ´s curious but I am much more used to see tomato in salads than any type of fruit.

So, if some people usually eat salads with fruits and other usually it them with tomato( all together with vegetables, like lettuce, for example..), then why not try to mix tomato and fruits?. Hehe, it may be delicious:), and tomato would be with its brothers and sisters, hahahaha.

I would

A fruit has seeds inside it. Vegetables are all other edible parts of a plant.

Hi.

You are quite right Louise T. Fruits come from the flower of the plant(from its ovary, to be more precise. And this could be its definition), and normally have seeds inside, but it seems not always(bananas, for example, or figs. They work differently).

On the other hand it also seems we should consider pepper as a fruit. And it is, at least when we use the term "fruit" sci
