I have another qustion: cellophane noodles: are these simply noodles bought in cellophane? And, the third, if you don't mind: peanutty? I couldn't find this word.

  • Is it a pun in the sentence: If you are really peanutty for peanut Butter's taste, you'll be nutty for this stew.

Hi Antonia,
I am not sure about your first question, but my guess is that for making tomato paste, tomatoes should be heated and cooked (?) very mildly for several hours. But this process (heating) is not used in preparing tomato concentrates. I hope that it helps.
I have no idea about your second question. And as for the third, it's a funny pun, I liked it! And tasty!
Cheers,

Thanks LL!

An addition to tomato concetrate: DOUBLE STRENGTH TOMATO CONCENTRATE (ITALIAN TUBE) What does double strngth mean? Extra strong?

I guess so. Though I think it's better to hear it from a person who really have these products in thier country!

Yes, double strength means it is extra strong (i.e. more concentrated). I don't know if there is a difference between tomato paste and tomato concentrate. I think they might be the same. In the UK you will also see this product referred to as 'tomato puree'. Again, it's the same thing.

I think tomato paste & concentrate are the same, but I don't think that tomato puree is either of these. Tom. puree is essentially made from fresh tomatoes, gently cooked then sieved (like passata). It is not concentrated. (i.e water content reduced)

cellophane noodles are widely used in Japanes & Thai cookery, I believe. This definition from Noodles now

Sorry forgot this bit:

"peanutty" is a pun. "Nutty" = mad for, crazy about.

If you are crazy about peanuts, you'll love this.

Here we have tomato paste in a tube, and tomato concentrate in small tin cans (+ tomato dice, and peeled tomatoes, in tins too). The paste is slightly dryer, but the result is the same...

Yes, think you're right on this, Pieanne. same here.
