An error identification question:

Working as he (A) was in (B) such a dangerous environment, Mr. Choi (C) insured his life (D) for a large amount of money.

The given answer is A, but I don't what I should change for it. Please advise.

They are expecting you to correct A to 'did'. However, I would also accept 'was' a
