TOEIC Question

Speaker 1: Won't you two join us for dinner?
Speaker 2:
(A) We'll be glad to.
(B) We don't want to join.
(C) There will be two of us.

It goes without saying that (A) is the best. However, can't (B) also be a possible answer? Please advise.

"We don't want to join you " would be possible (as a rather abrupt refusal), but "We don't want to join" doesn't fit. That sounds as if you are talking about joining a club, organisation, etc.

I checked the question again, and there's only one word "join" without "us". How weird. So you are suggesting that answer (B) sounds either abrupt or like not joining a club.

For your latter explanation, as a non-native speaker, I really can't tell the difference in the meaning between "join" as an verb transitive and verb intransitive. But thanks for your help.

Sorry, should be "you" not "us".

It's not weird if (B) is not intended to be correct.
