TOEFL type essay, topic 17, please give a piece of advice

Dear teachers!

If it is possible please review my essay and advise me.

Topic:

Some people think that they can learn better by themselves than with a teacher. Others think that it is always better to have a teacher. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons to develop your essay.

Essay:

To be successful people learn new languages, technologies they obtain new skills and improve their existing knowledge. This is a process in which everybody takes part as a student. Since for anybody it is important to absorb all necessary information as fast as possible there are teachers who are aimed to help people in their educational affairs. However some people think that they can learn better by themselves without asking a teacher for his help. Often position of those people is based on their own outstanding abilities to learn alone. My idea is that a good teacher will always be a good support for learning but a bad teacher can slow down and even break down the learning process.

When I was studying at the university we had a few teachers who were always too fast. It was hard for all students in our group to write down a lecture or even to memorize most of the topics explained by those teachers. So most of my friends decided to study alone and they used our teachers only to ask them for a reference book. At the end of the semester the results of our examinations showed that those students who studied at home were better prepared and they got better results. This example shows how bad teacher can decrease the quality of the education.
As an opposite example there is an old saying, which says that good teacher can make good master from anybody.
Good talented teachers are widely known and respected but unfortunately not everyone has a good teacher.

My position on this subject is the following.
I believe that most of the learning work is done by a student. That means for a learning teacher can help us but most of the things we need to do by ourselves. If there is a chance to have a good teacher it is recommended to use this teacher. But teacher really is not necessary for a successful education. It is up on student how good he will be but a good teacher will definitely improve our skills.
