TOEFL Independent Task

It has recently been announced that a new restaurant may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

There are disadvantages and advantages to opening a restaurant in the area where we live. But if there is a plan to build a new one in my neighborhood, I will definitely support it because of the following reasons.

Firstly, a restaurant built in my local area will attract customers from neighboring towns. This means we will have more chance to meet people from other places. Residents in my area are well-known for their friendliness and affability. Thus, knowing they will be able to meet and make friends from all over the place would make them very happy. Not to mention many would probably find their business partners and even their future life partners. I guess they would eagerly support the plan as I do.

Secondly, there is a lack of fine restaurants in my neighborhood. My family used to go out and eat in a fancy restaurant once a month. It is significant to us because it helps to strengthen the emotional bonds between my family members. However, due to the lack of good restaurants in my neighborhood, we have to go to a relatively distant restaurant in the neighboring town. Because it took us too long to reach there, we decided not to follow our routine anymore. Thus, if this new restaurant is fancy and serves food good enough, my family can go out to eat once a month again.

Another reason is that opening a restaurant in my residential area will create more jobs for people in my town. As we all know, a restaurant requires a high number of staffs, such as waiters and cleaners, and it often hires people from the nearby areas for those positions. This is really beneficial for people from my local area, especially for the unemployed, since they will have the opportunity to work there, which would help them to earn money and provide for their families.

In conclusion, I would strongly support the plan of building a new restaurant in my neighborhood because there has been a lack of fine restaurant here. Moreover, opening a new restaurant will create more jobs and opportunities to meet people from other places to our local residents.
