TOEFL Independent Task #11

Some people spend their entire lives in one place. Others move a number of times throughout their lives, looking for a better job, house, community, or even climate. Which do you prefer: staying in one place or moving in search of another place? Use reasons and specific examples to support your opinion.

There is a question of whether we should spend our entire lives in one place or keep searching and moving to a better place. While many people hold the view that we should stay in one place, I believe that we should keep exploring and moving to places that suit us better.

Firstly, we will make more friends and broaden our friend network. We will meet and form friendships with many people as we move from place to place, and there is a variety in the way they live and what they can do. This is highly beneficial for us since these people may be the ones who help us later in our lives.

Secondly, we obtain more experience and gain more knowledge when we go to many places. Each place has its own culture and people from it have their own perception of the world. Getting to know the local customs, as well as the point of view of local people, will dramatically broaden our knowledge scope. As a result, we will become more mature and consider everything more wisely.

Another reason we should keep searching for another place is that we will have more chances to find our ideal job. As we all know, in different periods of our lives, our ability and skills change. This means that the position we are currently doing may not be the one that can maximize our potential and give us the most money. Thus, being open to moving to another place gives us more opportunities to find the job that suits us best.

In conclusion, people should be open to moving to other places because it gives us the opportunity to meet more people and make more friends. Moreover, we will gain more knowledge about the world and have more chance to find the most satisfying job.
