Hey! can anyone look over this toefl-essay on homeschooling? Question: Children should never be educated at home by their parents. Do you agree or disagree? My answer: The first years of school are the most important in a child’s life, because they affect how the child will do in school in the future. However, many schools fail to teach their students in the right way. As a result, their students loose many opportunities to pursue further carriers. Some parents solve this problem by educating their kids at home. In my opinion, this solution is much better for several reasons. First, for some students, teachers are explaining new material too fast, so they find it difficult to follow. However, many others find that speed too slow, and therefore they find the class boring. Such students might disturb others. Also, the way things are explained in class might not satisfy all the students. The parent, who knows the child better than anyone, can adjust the speed and the method of teaching, so that it suits the needs of the child. Next, variety is crucial in the process of learning. This includes things like visiting museums or going on field trips. But many schools fail to vary the lessons due to limited financial resources. In home-environment, the costs are lower, because there are fewer kids. Therefore, money is a smaller obstacle for a homeschooling parent with one child rather than for a teacher with a whole class. Thirdly, the opponents of homeschooling state that the child will have limited contact with its peers. This is wrong, because many school-students are bullied or badly-influenced by their peers. The homeschooled child can still meet friends and have fun, just like those who aren’t homeschooled. Moreover, a child taught at home spends more time with appropriate role models, such as siblings, parents and grandparents. To sum up, homeschooling is better because it can be adjusted to the needs of the child. The needs can be speed of learning, variety and styles of learning. Being together with peers is not limited in any way.
