"Today on the last train he's arriving"

A: When does your brother arrive here?
B: Today, on the last train he's arriving.

My grammar book says the second sentence (B) is incorrect and it should be changed into 'by the last train'. Is it really awkward to say "on the last train"?

The word order in B is not natural. More natural is
eg Today, he's arriving on the last train.
eg Today, on the last train.
