today no school

Whenever a child is being asked why he/she isn't in school that day, he/she will usually answer "today no school". I'll then jokingly ask whether the school collapsed overnight.

What would be the best way for the child to answer such a question?

Hi,
There are many possible answers. eg

No, it didn't.
Yes, I think it did.
I don't know.
I hope not.

It's the kind of question from an adult that children often interpret as not requiring any answer except, perhaps, a smile.

Best wishes, Clive

"School" in this context does not refer to a building, but to the session, activity or the process of learning.
