To zoom out .....?

Hi,

Not sure if I use the prepositions after the phrasal verbs zoom in/zoom out correctly....

Lets take "the camera zoomed in on his face..." and google-search for this word combination.
The search engine will find a million or so instances .... which makes me think the expression "to zoom in on smth" is correct English.

On the other hand, if we take "the camera zoomed out FROM his face...", the total number of instances found by the engine will be less than a dozen... probably because the expression "to zoom out from smth" is wrong grammar or something?

If you could help me with this?

Hi Mus-te, Does the camera zoom in and out, or is it the lens that performs the action? I know that most people say "the camera" but when I Googled "camera lens zoomed out", I got 54,000,000 responses. The action of a camera zooming out from a face makes me think that the camera itself is emerging from the subject's head.

  • To zoom in and to zoom out make sense - but the context of the lens performing the action seems very important.

Hi John,

Yes, it should have been "the camera lens zoomed out [preposition to be specified :-)] his face".

I am so glad you are back here on this forum! :-)
