to vs for

Hello everyone.

I'd appreciate if you could give me your opinion on this:

-If I find math difficult, then I say:

Math is difficult for me.

-However, if I find it easy myself (because, for example, I'm a professor of math) but still recognise its difficulty (for others for example) and view it as such, then I express my perception by saying:

Math is difficult to me.

Am I right on this? Thank you very much.

If you find Math difficult, then yes, you should say "Math is difficult for me" . I have virtually no doubt about that. About the second scenario (you find it easy, but think it's hard for others), I think that, if you say " Math is difficult to me", most people will not notice the difference between for and to , so they'll think you find Math hard.

  • If you find Math difficult, then yes, you should say "Math is difficult for me" .
  • I have virtually no doubt about that.

  • Maybe it is a correct way to say it, if you find Math easy, but I suggest that you write something less misleading, "I think Math can be difficult" , or "I understand how Math can prove difficult to some people" .
  • It's also possible that "Math is difficult for me" and " Math is difficult to me" mean the same thing (which I believe they do), and you have no alternative but to use something else for the second scenario.
