Grammar

to use OR to be used

Hi,

(1) Once installed the program is ready to use.
(2) Once installed the program is ready to be used.

I guess both versions are correct English?

Although (2) looks "more logical" to me, (1) appears "preferable" in English?

If you could comment on these alternatives?

(Also, does this dilemma have anything to do with "ergative verbs"?)
