Vocabulary

to turn up somewhere

Hello,
Would it be wrong to say: "Guess who turned up at my door today?" I think that "turn up" has the element of surprise in this sentence.

I wasn't. However, I have also seen "show up" used in the same context. I have no idea which one would sound more natural to a native speaker.

They both sound fine to me. I see no real difference in meaning. You could also say "Guess who popped up...?"
