To try to do something which you don't have any idea about

Hi

Is there an idiom/phrasal verb in English which means something like 'to try to do something which you don't have any idea about'; e.g. You are trying to aim in the dark, you are trying to fire gushots in the dark. Please let me know. Thanks.

You could say, "I'll take a shot in the dark," meaning "I'll make an attempt without much chance of success."
