Hi,

I know that you can ‘follow instructions to the letter’, but what about ‘stick to’?

“He doesn’t usually stick to the script to the letter.”

Thank you.

” That is not impossible, but "to the letter" sounds redundant there to my ear. He already doesn't stick to the script, which means he goes off unexpectedly whenever the mood strikes him, so letters are the least of your problems. " That means more like he occasionally makes minor alterations as he goes.
