To take a rain check

Hi,

Although I know what this idiom means, I am not sure whether it is possible to replace "take" with some other verb in this expression.

It looks like "Can I get a rain check?" is ok too (it is even less formal that the original version with "to take"?)

And what about, say, "to ask a rain check"? Or maybe the verbs 'to take' and 'to get' are the only ones collocating with 'rain check'?

hope my question makes sense to you...
