An insurance policy is a financial instrument you can buy from an insurance company.
There are different types. The most common is "term insurance" but there are other types.

Suppose you are a 25-year-old male with a wife and kids. They depend on your salary to live.
But what if you die? You still want your wife and kids to have income. So you buy term insurance, say for 20 years.
