To start with?

Hello, I found this dialogue in an old book about "English in Business":

A: Can I ask you to put forward our order?

B: Well, we'll see. What's the number order, please?

A: Er....

B: It's on the order acknowledgement we sent to you. It's probably a serial number starting MU and so on.

A: Oh yes, I've got it.... Er.... MU/ 9752.

-------------------------------------------------------

I wonder why we don't say, "It's probably a serial number starting with MU and so on."

Please help!

Thank you!
