Vocabulary

to stand by/stick by something

Hello,
Do you think that both of them would work in the following sentences:
- He stuck by/stood by his earlier statements and never changed his story.
- The doctors stuck by/stood by their belief that they were not at fault.

Are there any differences in meaning in your opinion.

Thank you, Clive. Yes, I think that "stick by" is informal too. Does it sound odd to you, though? (in everyday speech)
