To spend or to pass?

Hi!

I need to know the difference between the two verbs! I usually say:

"How did you spend the week"? but

"many years have passed" not to spend!

"I passed my holidays at home" ??? I doubt it can be ?!

I also know that "to pass" can be used like "I passed my exams" or am I wrong?

Thanks for any reply!
