to slump

I'm not happy with the following phrase.

On arrival, he let himself slump onto the hotel bed.

This is supposed to be the action of an exhausted person after a long trip. Can you improve on that?

Why not just "he slumped onto the hotel bed"? He doesn't have to "let himself slump."
