What do you think of this introduction I made to my essay? -

- At that distant year of 1964 we were living a bad time with people going to sheets to claim for something almost every day." Is the use of "sheets" correct?

Broadsheet - a type of newspaper (you know, those big serious ones it's impossible to read on the train!)

No, this is a correct example. Instead of seeing the individual drops, you see sheets of water.
